Why drink water?

Hi this is Kate

Today I want to talk to you about water and its importance to our health and our body.

So why do we need to drink water? Our bodies are made up of approximately sixty percent water and water is needed for all bodily functions from our brains to our blood circulation to the use of our muscles. So that is a reason to keep ourselves hydrated. If we don’t drink enough water we get things like muscle cramps, we get headaches and we have an inability to think clearly.

How much water do we need each day? Well around about two and a half litres which sounds like a lot but it can be counted not just in water itself but in the foods that we eat as well. Things like salads and vegetable contain more water than some other foods.

What happens if we find it difficult to drink water? We can try things other than fizzy drinks or alcohol. We can try putting lemon juice or herbs into water or what we call infusions, things that contain things like fruits or lemon or ginger. It is a question of finding something that we like.

Start small, maybe a glass of water in between meals or before a meal and just work on it from there.

I thank you for listening and I will see you again in my next video.
