Hi this is Kate and I’m recording my video this week on our gut and its health and how important it is for our general health. It’s something that is not talked about, our digestive system. When we’re young we take it for granted, we don’t think about it, we eat and drink whatever we like. As we get older, we find that is not the case any more and we have to think a bit more.

I’ve always had a slow digestion. My metabolic rate may be quite high but the way I digest food is quite slow which has led to problems of constipation in the past.
I started to change all that, to think how I could change the health of my digestive system, when I read a book by Guilia Enders entitled simply Gut. It is a book based very much on science but she makes it extremely readable and it parts extremely funny. I would like to read you just a little bit about what the book is about.
“For too long the gut has been the most ignored and the most under-appreciated organ in the body. It’s not just responsible for dirty work, our gut is at the core of who we are.” The author answers questions like…
why does gastric reflux happen?
what really are lactose and gluten intolerances?
how does the gut affect obesity and our mood?
Our gut reactions we are told are intimately connected with our physical and mental well being. It is a subject that I intend to continue to explore in another video, including my own gut health journey.
Thank you for listening. I’ll see you again in my next video.
